Obama Opens Office in Lexington…
By: Michael L. Brown
April, 2008
Senator Barack Obama’s campaign has opened up an office in
Lexington. The office, which is his second in Kentucky, opened on
Monday, April 7th with a crowd of about 400 people. Obama for
America’s grassroots style of campaigning is what they believe will
carry the election for them on May 20. The campaign opened the state
headquarters in Louisville last month and has plans to open several
more across the state. The office is running a phone bank to
organize Obama supporters and recruit volunteers. They are also
going door to door to register people to vote before the April 21
deadline.
His campaign style contrasts with Senator Clinton who has yet to
open a Kentucky office, though she has visited the state. Her
husband, Bill Clinton, has also held rallies to attract supporters.
The current polls show Clinton with a slight lead in Kentucky,
though Senator Obama is closing the gap.
As the primary approaches it will be interesting to see how the race
plays out. Kentucky voted for Bush in the last two presidential
races, but went for Bill Clinton in ’92 and ’96. Approval for the
Clintons is still very high, though some would say that the former
president is starting to become more of a liability than an asset.
Anyone who wants to get involved with either campaigns should check
their websites:

Those interested in volunteering at the
Lexington for Obama office should call 859-971-1271 or go in during
office hours. The office is located at 125 E Reynolds Rd, Suite 115.
